You can do so much with plates and plaques. From decoupage to image transfers. Transfers may take some computer skills that will require graphics and reverse imaging. Most of the decoupage you can use a photograph copy of ancestors or one of your own paintings, picture from a magazine or collage of favorite things. You can add it to a tile, paint patterns on the boarder, add a hook and you have a plaque worthy of hanging on the wall.
Mod Podge has a product that you can do transfers with. (Mod Podge Photo Transfer Medium). Just remember when you do transfers you have to create a reverse image so it will transfer correctly. This is most important when there are words involved. Computers are good for this. I use Microsoft Publishers. Etsy has many shops offering graphic images of vintage book prints that are PDF and has a transparant background. So if you have a backdrop collection to choose from you can use these graphic images as a foreground for those favorite colors or backdrop subject. This process is also great while making pendant jewelry.
If you have any questions about plate and tile art, please leave me a message and I will be happy to help.
